Time to be still

In today's harried, hassled, and hurried society, few people have the luxury of time to get away to a quiet place and just settle down for a bit. The notion of "being still" for any reason seems almost impossible for most of us as the pressures of daily life sweep over us.

Responsibilities to our jobs, families, and our communities, so easily crowd God and His Word out of our daily lives - even when we long for His Presence. It is no wonder that the latest statistics show that over 18 million Americans suffer with some type of Depression.

(for more information go to:)

We can't always control the path our lives have taken, or the number of responsibilities we have, but we can control how we choose to use whatever moments of leisure we are able to find.

One of the greatest ways to combat the dark cloud of depression and discouragement that sometimes envelopes today's believer is by spending time in God's Word. That is where we are constantly reminded of Who it is we serve and of His power and willingness to intervene in our behalf.

Psalm 46: 10 tells us;

"Be still, and know that I am God..."

It is in 'being still' in His Presence, and reading His Word, that we discover that He is our refuge, our strength, and our 'very present help in trouble' (vs.1).

We sink into depression and discouragement because we don't take time to be with God and to cast our cares on Him and ask for His help. We walk around with all our anxieties, responsibilities, and burdens weighing heavily on our minds and with our hearts full of doubt, guilt and resentment.

God wants to take all of it upon His very capable shoulders - He wants to bear our burdens and show His power in our lives. All we have to do is give Him the chance.
